The Firm's Approach

What Distinguishes Our Practice

Partner-Handled Matters

Each engagement is conducted or directly supervised by a partner. Work is not delegated to junior staff without the partner's active involvement at every stage.

Fee Transparency

Fees are stated at the outset of each engagement, not estimated loosely and revised later. Clients know the scale of commitment before work begins.

Professional Discretion

Client matters are treated with the confidentiality demanded of a professional practice. The firm does not discuss client affairs outside of what the engagement requires.

Malaysian Law Expertise

The practice is grounded in Malaysian statutory and common law as it applies in this jurisdiction. Advice reflects the actual state of the law, not generalised principles.

Realistic Advisories

The firm's practice is to advise on the realistic outcome of any contemplated course of action, including where that outcome may not favour the client's preferred position.

Written Documentation

Conferences, advice, and scoping assessments are followed by written notes. Clients have a record of the advice given and the matters discussed at each meeting.

Taking Instructions

Is There a Matter We May Assist With?

An initial scoping conference at MYR 490 is the appropriate starting point for most matters. The conference identifies what is required, what it will cost, and what the realistic timeframe will be.

Common Enquiries

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the firm handle initial enquiries?
Enquiries should be directed to the firm by telephone or by the contact form on this page. A member of the firm will acknowledge the enquiry and, where appropriate, arrange an initial scoping conference. The firm does not provide substantive advice at the enquiry stage; the conference is the proper setting for that discussion.
What should I bring to a scoping conference?
Clients should send relevant documents to the firm in advance of the conference so that the partner conducting the conference may review them beforehand. What is relevant depends on the matter — for a will, this may include existing documents and a summary of the estate; for an employment matter, it may include the employment agreement and any correspondence. The firm will indicate what is needed when the conference is scheduled.
How are fees structured and billed?
Fees are quoted at the outset of each engagement. The firm may charge on a fixed-fee basis for discrete tasks, or on a time-cost basis for matters of uncertain scope, with a stated ceiling where appropriate. Billing is in Malaysian Ringgit. Disbursements — court fees, stamp duties, and similar — are charged separately and itemised. The firm does not charge for services not rendered.
Does the firm take contentious employment matters?
Yes, the employment and industrial practice includes contentious matters before the Industrial Court of Malaysia. The firm advises principally on the employer's side. Before accepting a contentious instruction, the firm will assess the realistic prospects of the proposed course of action and will advise candidly if those prospects do not support proceeding.
How long does a typical private client matter take?
Duration depends substantially on the complexity of the matter and the completeness of the instructions provided. A straightforward will may be completed within two to three weeks of full instructions. A family-company governance arrangement or a generational transfer will typically require several months of careful drafting and review. Timeframes are discussed and agreed at the scoping conference stage.
Is client information kept confidential?
All information provided to the firm is held under professional legal privilege and the firm's duty of confidentiality. This duty continues after the engagement has concluded. The firm does not disclose client information except as required by law or professional obligation, and does not use client information for any purpose other than the conduct of the engagement.

Appointments recommended

For matters of consequence, an initial scoping conference is the appropriate first step. The firm recommends scheduling a conference rather than attempting to discuss substantive matters by telephone.
